Description
The QESWACHAKA FULL DAY tour is a unique cultural and historical experience that takes you deep into the traditions of the Andes. This full-day excursion combines scenic landscapes, authentic Andean villages, and a visit to one of the last remaining Inca rope bridges. The tour is mostly by van, with strategic stops at natural and cultural points of interest before and after arriving at the iconic Q’eswachaka Bridge.
Suspended at 3,700 meters (12,139 ft) above sea level over the ApurÃmac River, the Q’eswachaka Bridge is a handwoven rope bridge made from natural fibers. What makes this bridge truly remarkable is that it has been rebuilt annually for more than 600 years by local communities. Every June, over a thousand people from four different villages come together to renew the bridge in a sacred tradition that was recognized by UNESCO in 2013 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Crossing the bridge is like stepping back in time. During the Inca Empire, this type of rope bridge was essential for connecting vast areas of rugged Andean terrain. The Q’eswachaka Bridge is part of the ancient Qhapaq Ñan, the Inca road network that linked all corners of the empire. The bridge is an outstanding example of indigenous engineering and community spirit, preserved across generations.
On the QESWACHAKA FULL DAY tour, you’ll also enjoy panoramic views, traditional Andean snacks, and the rich culture of the highlands. You’ll visit picturesque lakes, volcanic rock formations, and quaint villages along the route.
The QESWACHAKA FULL DAY experience is ideal for travelers seeking a deeper connection with Peru’s living history and Andean legacy. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness a tradition that bridges the past and present.
